I wonder if children ever realize the energy, thought and effort that goes into choosing their name. Dan and I checked out a name book from the library this weekend and I spent an hour reading all of the boys names (over 100 pages) only to come up with a handful that I liked and only five that we both liked! Boys names seem so much harder than girls.
Speaking of girls and names. My darling little Lydia shocked both Dan and I last week when she was trying to get my attention and after hollering "Mom" twice suddenly shouted, "TASSIE"(she pronounces her C's as T's)! There is something hillarious and yet strangely sad in hearing the precious little voice of your daughter call you by your first name. For the past two years I have Always been referred to as Mama. Of course we've gone through phases of "Ma-ma-ma," "Ama," "Mommy," "Mama," and "Mom." But when and how she figured she could call me Cassie/"Tassie" is a mystery to me. I guess it shouldn't be such a mystery when everyone around me says it and I respond, however cute it is to hear her say "Tassie," I think I prefer Mama!
